Cops: He took $80 worth of food from Walmart. What he left behind may leave him red-handed

A man stole groceries from a Myrtle Beach Walmart Saturday night, then left his phone at the store when fleeing the scene, according to police.

Myrtle Beach police responded to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on 17th Avenue South at 6:30 p.m. Saturday after a man allegedly filled his shopping cart with miscellaneous items and walked out of the door without paying. The complainant was unable to identify all the stolen items but estimates it was roughly $80 worth of food, according to an incident report.

After reviewing security footage, police discovered the suspect dropped his phone while leaving the store, according to the report, with the phone then placed into evidence.

Police identified the suspect as a black male with short dreads wearing a gray zip-up hoodie who stands approximately 6-foot tall and weighs about 150 pounds.
