Myrtle Beach police arrested and charged Theresa Alicia Mance, 32, with unlawful neglect of a child in connection to the alleged assault. That charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

On March 4, an 8-year-old girl went to school with bruises on her arms and said her stepmom, Mance, hit her with a belt or belt buckle, according to the police report.

Officers saw several bruises on the child’s arms, the report states.

Mance was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond on Friday.
