Myrtle Beach police rescue dog from roof near a pool, then filed criminal charges
Myrtle Beach police helped rescue a malnourished dog from a roof over a motel pool and now the owner faces a criminal citation.
Shortly before midnight Sunday, officers went to 2401 S. Ocean Blvd. to help a man who was on a ladder trying to save the dog. The dog was on the roof over a pool for about two to three hours, according to a police report. Temperatures were in the mid-40s around that time.
When the dog was rescued, officers found it to be malnourished, but uninjured, the report states. Police then went to the Compass Cove and went room-by-room to find the owner.
The owner - identified as Keish Maria Buchanan, 33 - was in the room with another emotional support dog and two children. She said she left the rescued dog, Sidney, on the patio when she went to Walmart. When she returned, the dog was gone.
Police noted the emotional support dog appeared to be underweight, and animal control said it would do a follow up with that animal, the report states.
The owner allowed police to take the dog that was on the roof to an animal hospital, according to the report.
Officer cited Buchanan with animal neglect, the report states.
