Cops: Man used ‘derogatory name’ as kids rummaged his car. Then he got his lip bloodied
A man told police he was punched in the face and bloodied by a parent after using a “derogatory name” on children who he found going through his vehicle in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, according to a police report.
Following the incident, the man went to the Myrtle Beach police station to give police his account of the alleged assault. He told officers he’d caught three children going through his vehicle near Cedar Street and 3rd Avenue North, and when he confronted them he called one a derogatory name, the report states.
The man told police he then went over to the parents to discuss the incident. The father of one of the children asked if the man had called his kid a name, and the man admitted he had and apologized, police noted. The kid’s father then punched the victim in the lip before standing between the victim and his vehicle, according to the report.
The victim told police he then “went at him,” swinging at the suspect in order to get him away from the vehicle. The victim was then able to get into his vehicle and went to the police station to report the incident, the report states.
Police noted the victim had a cut inside his mouth and dry blood on his bottom lip. The man told police he didn’t know the suspect’s name, saying he only knew he lived in Carolina Breeze Apartments.
