Police: Man chokes woman, threatens to kill her and her kid on third date in Myrtle Beach
A 41-year-old man choked a woman and threatened to kill her and her 1-year-old child during an assault in Myrtle Beach early Monday morning, according to an incident report.
Horry County police contacted Myrtle Beach police referencing a victim who was outside city limits but was reporting an assault within the city, the report states. The woman told police she arrived at the suspect’s home around 7 p.m. as they were set to go on their third date.
The man — later identified as Jonathan R. Bohannon — and the woman then walked to the nearby Soho restaurant to order sushi to bring back to his place, according to the report. The woman told police that after they got back Bohannon drank heavily and became violent sometime after midnight.
The woman told police Bohannon began to choke her and hold his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t flee, the report states. Bohannon also at one point grabbed a kitchen knife and wielded it within inches of the woman while threatening to kill her and her 1-year-old kid, who was not present, police say.
Bohannon, who the victim said was in possession of cocaine, also broke the woman’s iPhone and tossed it over a balcony, according to the report. He also told the woman he had two handguns — one under the bed and another in the bathroom — though police didn’t not find those weapons, officers noted.
Eventually, the victim was able to let out a scream, which alerted Bohannon’s mother — who lives at the residence, located in the 400 block of 20th, Avenue North as well — the report states. His mother then helped the woman flee, police say.
Officers noted redness on the victim’s face and bruising on her lower right calf. Police reported finding the woman’s damaged iPhone right outside the balcony, and also located a baggy of what is believed to be cocaine on the front seat of a vehicle Bohannon was known to drive, according to the report.
Police entered Bohannon into the National Crime Information Center as wanted and were pursuing warrants for his arrest. As of early Monday afternoon, there were no online records indicating he’d been arrested.
