After two years on the run, police nab Horry County murder suspect

After searching for nearly two years, Horry County police arrested a man they say killed a 20-year-old in a drive-by shooting.

Tyshawn Brown, 26, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday. Horry County police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov confirmed he is the same man police had been searching for since 2018.

Charles Edward Durant II, 20, died in a shooting near Spring Street and Church Street in April 2018. Police say Durant and another person were inside a truck at a stop sign when someone pulled up alongside and started shooting. A passenger in the truck went to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Durant’s father told The Sun News on the day after the shooting that when he arrived at the shooting scene, police would not let him get close to the truck. He added his son got into some trouble as a youth, but was a good person.

“I’d just love to know what in the world he did to someone to want to do him like that because he wasn’t a violent person,” Charles Durant Sr. said.

In May 2018, Philadelphia police arrested Heath Reaves Jr. in connection to the shooting. Police charged Reaves with murder and attempted murder, and his cases remain active.

Police searched for Brown and asked for the public’s help while the ATF offered a $5,000 reward.

Brown now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Brown is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond. It is typical that only a circuit court judge can set bond in murder cases.

In 2015, a judge sentenced Brown to five years in prison after pleading guilty to reckless homicide for a fatal crash in Loris.
