He locked up his brakes and skidded when he saw police. Then they found the drugs: report

A 22-year-old man in possession of marijuana said he “did not realize what was going on” when he locked up his brakes and skidded across the street near Myrtle Beach police who were blocking a roadway with power lines down, according to an incident report.

Payton Patrick McMann was charged with possession of marijuana and driving too fast for conditions in connection to the incident, which happened at the intersection of Poinsett Road and North Kings Highway.

McMann’s vehicle was traveling at a “high rate of speed” when he complete locked up his brakes and skidded across the roadway upon seeing police blocking the roadway, the report states. Police say McMann began to apologize and said he “did not realize what was going on.”

While asking McMann to provide his driver’s license, registration and insurance, officers caught a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the report. Police say they asked McMann about the smell, and he admitted he had marijuana on him that he’d just bought and showed officers a clear baggy containing the drug.

Police arrested McMann and took him to Myrtle Beach Jail, where he was charged. Officers found 7.17 grams of marijuana, the report states.
