He was spotted in the trees in her yard, cops say, which is why he faces a felony charge

A 27-year-old was spotted in the trees in a woman’s yard just weeks after getting out of jail on a harassment charge and now faces a more serious criminal count, according to police.

Horry County officers charged Steven Davis, of Mullins, with stalking on Tuesday. He remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $10,000 bond. He was charged on Jan. 21 with second-degree harassment.

On Monday, police went to Pine Valley Lane, in the Surfside Beach area, for a stalking report. The victim said she had ongoing harassment problems with Davis and had a protective order against him, according to a police report.

Police officers and the victim had told Davis multiple times that he was not allowed to have contact with the victim.

The victim installed a camera on her house because of the previous issues, she said. When she watched the video, she saw Davis going into and out of the trees behind her home, according to the report.

Stalking is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
