Suspect hits, drags kitten across the floor of Myrtle Beach area apartment

A man allegedly hit and dragged a kitten across the floor of a Myrtle Beach area apartment and now police have charged the suspect.

Horry County police charged Joshua Ausberry, 20, of Fort Mill, with ill treatment of animals. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Sunday and released after posting $2,000 bond.

Officers went to the Chanticleer Village Apartments on Jan. 30 for a report of animal cruelty. The victim said Ausberry hit her kitten and dragged it across the floor, according to a police report.

The victim took the kitten to the vet, where it was treated for trauma and bruising, according to the report.

The attack was seen on video surveillance, the report states.

Ill treatment of animals is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
