Conway church allegedly burned down by pastor faces a new court battle

A Conway church property that was once the subject of an arson investigation now faces foreclosure for not paying nearly $300,000, according to court records.

Last week, the person holding the mortgage debt filed in Horry County court to foreclose on the Abundant Faith Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Inc. property at 1410 4th Avenue.

The suit states in 2014 Cameron J. Banks, the church’s president, took a $300,000 loan on the property. To date, more than $282,000 is owed on the no-interest loan. The filing claims the church has missed payment due dates.

A phone number to Abundant Faith Lighthouse of Jesus Christ was not in service on Monday.

The filing asks a judge to order the sale of the property with the money going to pay off debts.

The church caught fire in 2016, gutting the worship center, according to multiple media reports.

Police charged pastor Cameron Julius Xavier Banks with second-degree arson, obstruction of justice, burning personal property to defraud insurer and making false insurance claim to obtain benefits for fire.

All of his cases remain active.
