Georgetown police investigating after 1 person was shot and killed, another hurt

One person is dead following a shooting in the Georgetown city area on Monday night.

Another person was injured in the incident, and police made an arrest and charged a Georgetown man with murder Tuesday.

Georgetown city police officers went to Georgetown Memorial Hospital around 11 p.m. for a reported shooting. There were two victims and investigators determined the incident happened near Lincoln Street and Legion Street.

Kawaun Montique Myers, 33, of Georgetown, died after the shooting, according to Georgetown police. A 22-year-old from Georgetown was also injured, and he went to a Charleston hospital for further treatment.

Police arrested Steven Mathew Elliott, 22, of Georgetown, and charged him with murder, according to online jail records. The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact police at 843-545-4300.
