Georgetown police officer taken to hospital after car struck by suspected drunken driver
A Georgetown police officer was taken to the hospital after his cruiser was struck by a suspected drunken driver Friday night, according to the department’s Facebook page.
Sgt. Scott Scogin was in a cruiser assisting a disabled motorist when his vehicle was struck in the rear, police say. Scogin was taken to the Georgetown Memorial Hospital for evaluation and released later Friday night.
“We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Please remember Sergeant Scogin and his family during his recovery. Thank you,” a department Facebook post said.
David Allen Haynes, 37, of Georgetown, was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence, police say. He’s been charged with driving under the influence and having an open container.
Haynes was booked at 12:47 a.m. Saturday and released at 11:43 a.m. the same day.
