A dispute over a phone charger ends with a Myrtle Beach woman facing an arson charge
A disagreement over a cell phone charger sparked one woman to try setting a Myrtle Beach home on fire, according to an arrest report.
Myrtle Beach police charged Charlotte Pernella Knox, 38, with second-degree arson in the incident. She is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $30,000 bond.
On Thursday, a group of people, including Knox, were in the police department’s station arguing. Some people told officers that Knox tried to set their home on fire, according to a police report.
The witnesses said there was a dispute over a cell phone charger at a Dunbar Street home, the report states. The witnesses watched through a window as Knox went to the front of the house and began pulling paper out. They watched Knox light tissue paper on fire and place it on the window seal.
Officers went to the residence and found burnt pieces of tissue paper in several plants around the home, the report states.
Police arrested and searched Knox and found a lighter, according to the report.
Second-degree arson is punishable by a minimum of 25 years in prison.
