Loris woman charged in connection to car crash that killed 3-year-old

A 23-year-old woman was charged with DUI with death in connection to a crash in the Loris area that killed a 3-year-old child.

Heather Grace Boyd, of Loris, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday on charges of DUI with death and DUI with great bodily injury. She is being held on $50,000 bond.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins confirmed on Friday that Boyd was charged in connection to a Jan. 10 crash in the Loris area.

A Hyundai crossed the center line on S.C. Highway 66 and struck a Nissan head-on around 5:25 p.m. A 3-year-old passenger in the Hyundai died, Collins said.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified Allura Blacknell as the victim in the crash.

Other people went to the hospital as a result of the wreck, authorities said.

DUI with death is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. DUI with great bodily injury is punishable by up to 15 years incarceration.
