‘Got my blade’: Butcher knife-wielding woman in Conway tried to fatally injure, cops say

A woman tried to “fatally injure” another person as she attacked with a butcher knife, according to an arrest report.

Conway police charged Bertha Mae Sims, 47, with attempted murder. Horry County police arrested her on Tuesday in the Aynor area. Horry County police say Sims was trying to hide behind a couch when she was arrested.

Sims is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $25,000 bond.

On Nov. 29 — Black Friday — Conway police went to a Hemingway Street residence and found a victim with a severe cut to the head, according to a police report.

The victim was in a fight with Sims’ daughter, the report states. Sims reportedly told the victim,“I got my blade if this isn’t a fair fight.”

Sims then attacked with intent to “fatally injure” the victim, according to her arrest warrant. The victim went to the hospital for treatment.

Attempted murder can be punished by up to 30 years in prison.
