He opened fire on a car in Myrtle Beach and now will spend more than a decade behind bars
A Myrtle Beach man will spend 15 years in prison for attempted murder after police say he opened fire on a car.
On Thursday, Jerome Lateek Thompson, 32, pleaded guilty using the Alford caveat to attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
The Alford caveat is where a defendant pleads without admitting guilt, but says there is likely enough evidence to convict during a trial.
Judge Larry Hyman sentenced him to 15 years in prison during a hearing in Horry County court. Thompson pleaded the same day a trial was to start on the charges.
In October 2018, Myrtle Beach police went to Mr. Joe White Avenue for a shooting. The victim said Thompson followed him before shooting at him.
The victim’s vehicle was struck five times by bullets, according to the solicitor’s office. Police say Thompson fired his gun nine times.
