Horry County teen reported sexual assault after running away from home, suspect arrested

A 39-year-old man faces charges in connection to the rape of a teen after she ran away from home, according to a police report.

Horry County police charged Johnny Dewayne Scott with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Friday with bail set at $75,000.

Scott faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

In late October, an Horry County police officer went to a group home after a 15-year-old girl was dropped off, according to a police report.

The teen told the officer she was sexually assaulted after running away from home, the report states. The victim had bruises on her neck.

An unidentified man picked up the victim at a S.C. Highway 9 CVS and took her to Tabor City, North Carolina, where the assault happened, the victim told the officer. The teen then gave more details about the assault’s location and officers determined it happened in the Flagpatch area of Loris.
