Myrtle Beach police arrested Christian Okoya Canteen, 26, and Daivon Lakeem McCrea, 23, in connection to the incident. They were both charged with discharging firearms inside of city limits.
Officers responded to Broadway at the Beach after a witness reported six or seven shots near Paula Deen’s restaurant around 2 a.m. Broadway security also reported hearing gunshots coming from the area of 29th Avenue North and U.S. Highway 17 Bypass, according to a police report.
Witnesses gave police a description of the suspects’ vehicle, and officers stopped the car near Highway 17 and Farrow Parkway.
Several people inside the car said the shots were fired because of a disagreement with an ex-girlfriend and her friends who were at Broadway at the Beach, the report states.
The witnesses said two people in the car were the ones that fired the guns, the report states.
The people inside the vehicle also said there were a pair of guns inside the car – a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun and a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun with a 32 high-round capacity magazine, according to the report.
Canteen told police that he fired shots in the air to “protect himself” and described them as warning shots, according to the report.
Officers tried to find shell casings near Broadway at the Beach, but were unable to confirm the shooting location other than near the 29th Avenue North exit from Broadway at the Beach close to Dave & Busters.
