Chased away: How a Myrtle Beach area store clerk thwarted a would-be robber

A local gas station employee chased a would-be robber out of the store after realizing they didn’t have a gun, police say.

Horry County officers responded to a BP Scotchman on Port Drive shortly after midnight Thursday for the reported robbery.

The clerk told police that a man entered the Myrtle Beach area store with his face covered, according to a police report. The suspect brandished what appeared to be a gun and demanded money from the register.

When the clerk realized the suspect did not have a gun, the employee chased the suspect from the business, the report states.

The clerk was not hurt in the incident, and the suspect did not steal any items, according to the report. The police have not released any suspect information. A woman who answered the phone at the store on Thursday declined to talk about the attempted robbery.
