Myrtle Beach police: Man left 10-year-old son alone on New Year’s to go to the bar

A man told police he left his 10-year-old son at home on New Year’s Day while he went to a bar, according to an arrest warrant.

Myrtle Beach arrested Allen Jack Rust on a count of unlawful neglected of a child. He was also charged with public intoxication and defrauding an inn/restaurant. He remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on slightly more than $5,000 bail.

On New Year’s Day, police arrested Rust at Pop’s Place bar, 511 S. Kings Highway. Rust told police that he left his 10-year-old son at home with no one to check on him, according to the warrant.

Rust was “highly intoxicated,” the warrants state, and would not cooperate with police. He also didn’t tell officers his son’s location so they could check on him.

Unlawful neglect of a child is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
