Man tells cops woman ‘stroked’ his daughter’s hair, pulled a knife on him in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach police are investigating after a man said a woman on North Ocean Boulevard attempted to stroke his daughter’s hair, leading to an altercation in which the suspect swung at him and pulled out a knife, according to an incident report.

Around 3:50 p.m. Sunday, officers were flagged down by a man who he’d been assaulted by a woman after telling her not to touch his daughters, the report states. The man told police that he and his two daughters were walking down North Ocean Boulevard near 12th Avenue when they went past a group of people, including a woman who “stroked” his one of his daughter’s hair.

The man told the woman not to touch his daughters, which angered the suspect — who as of Wednesday afternoon had not been identified — according to the report. After a short verbal spat, the suspect lunged and swung at the victim, who put his arm out, stopping her and causing her to fall down. Though the others in the group attempted to stop her, she lunged and swung at the man several other times with the same result, the report states.

The suspect then pulled what appeared to be a hinged knife that was 5 or 6 inches long, the man told police. He told his daughters to run and demanded the suspect stopped. The man slowly backed away as the suspect approached slowly with the knife mostly by her side but having raised it a couple times, according to the report. Eventually the man got far enough away that the suspect stopped her pursuit.

Afterward the man flagged down police, who searched for the woman to no avail, the report states. Police continue to investigate the incident.
