Talk about taking the wrong vehicle: Horry County police chief’s truck stolen
Whoops, maybe a different vehicle next time.
Horry County police Chief Joe Hill had his personal truck stolen from his home on Wednesday night in the Myrtle Beach area, according to the department. The vehicle was reported stolen to 911 and its information entered into a national database.
A Ring surveillance camera helped police identify the suspects.
Soon after the vehicle was reported stolen, a Myrtle Beach license plate reader spotted the vehicle and Myrtle Beach police found it in the Seaboard Street Walmart parking lot.
Police say they arrested suspects in the Racepath area on Thursday. Ryan Scott Corkum, 33, was charged with grand larceny in connection to the theft.
Police are still searching for Thomas Burney, 44, who is wanted for grand larceny in relation to the case. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call 843-248-1520.
“The professionalism demonstrated by 911, MBPD, and our officers and support staff was impressive. It’s not very often that we experience the side of the victims, but from the Hill family’s perspective, we have one amazing crime-fighting team here in the county,” Hill said in a release about the incident.
