Myrtle Beach mom faces a decade in prison after baby tests positive for drugs

A Myrtle Beach mom gave birth to a baby who tested positive for drugs, according to an arrest report.

Conway police charged Sophia Nicole Best, 26, with unlawful neglect of a child. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

On Dec. 3, police were told that Best gave birth to a boy and both tested positive for drugs, specifically opioids, according to the report. A Department of Social Services worker also said that Best had not been involved with the child since she gave birth.

Police found Best on Tuesday during a traffic stop and arrested her, according to the report.

Best is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
