Not-so happy holidays: Horry County cops seek suspect who pepper-sprayed mall employee

A Tanger Outlets employee was pepper-sprayed, and police are searching for the suspect.

Horry County police responded to the Tanger Outlets on Kings Road near North Myrtle Beach around 6 p.m. Monday. A group of customers was suspected of shoplifting.

The North Face store employees attempted to follow store procedures for suspected shoplifting when some suspects became irate, police say. As the situation escalated, one of the employees started to record the incident on a cellphone.

That’s when one of the customers pepper-sprayed the employee recording the incident, police say. The suspect then fled and is now wanted for assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 843-248-1520.
