Authorities arrest man wanted in connection to deadly shooting in Conway

Authorities arrested a man Monday evening who was wanted in connection to a deadly shooting in Conway, according to a news release from the Horry County Police Department.

Police arrested Aarin Jamal “A.J.” Michael and were in the process of booking him into J. Reuben Long Detention Center Monday night. The U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force made the arrest with help from the Horry County Police Department and the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

Michael was wanted in connection to the death of Charles Hemingway, a 21-year-old who was fatally shot at a home in the Conway area.

Investigators say Michael, 26, got into a fight with Hemingway on Nov. 29. Officers say the preliminary evidence shows Michael fired at the victim, then fled the scene. Hemingway and Michael knew each other before the incident.

Hemingway was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Another man was charged in connection to the incident. Horry County police charged Antonio Daniel Alvarado, of Conway, with accessory after the fact to a homicide, records show. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Nov. 29 and released the next day after posting $20,000 bond.

According to a police report, when officers arrived, they found Hemingway lying on the floor.

Alvarado met the officers at the door, and he was detained. He told the police, “he was from the streets and was not telling,” according to the report. Alvarado was then placed in a police car.
