Inmate found unresponsive in Georgetown County jail cell dies days later in hospital

A Georgetown County inmate who was found unresponsive in his jail cell died just days after being hospitalized, according to a news release.

The Georgetown County Detention Center announced the unidentified man’s death Monday evening.

The man was found by a correctional officer early Friday morning, and he was taken to the Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Georgetown Sheriff Carter Weaver contacted the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to further investigate the matter.
