Horry County Schools transportation director placed on leave following DUI arrest
An Horry County Schools transportation official was placed on administrative leave following a DUI arrest.
James Floyd Wright, who serves as the Executive Director of Transportation for the district, was charged by the South Carolina Highway Patrol with DUI and a seat belt violation, according to records.
Wright, 57, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center around 7:20 p.m. on Thursday. He was released from jail on Friday morning.
Cpl. Sonny Collins said a trooper stopped Wright shortly before 5 p.m. near S.C. Highway 707 and Big Block Road for a traffic violation. Wright smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.
Wright refused to provide a breath sample to calculate his blood alcohol content, Collins said. In South Carolina, the legal driving limit for BAC is .08.
According to Horry County Schools’ spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier, Wright was placed on administrative leave with pay after his arrest.
His case is the second high-profile drunk driving arrest of a district official in recent months. Former school board member Holly Heniford was charged with DUI by the North Myrtle Beach police in September. That charge was later dropped.
