Police car chase goes over state line and ends in crash, driver injured

Loris police are investigating after a car chase ended in a crash just over the North Carolina-South Carolina state line Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Marty Soles, whose age and other information was not available, will be charged with driving under a revoked license, not wearing a seat belt, and reckless driving in North Carolina, and he will likely be facing charges in South Carolina as well, Sgt. David Kinlaw with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, said.

Soles was taken to a hospital in South Carolina with a head injury, and no other passengers were in the car at the time of the incident, Sgt. Kinlaw said.

Loris police officers saw a car violating traffic laws about 8 p.m. near Broad Street, and a chase ensued, Chief Karen Shepherd with the Loris Police Department said.

Horry County police assisted Loris authorities in the chase, which reached high speeds, Shepherd said.

South Carolina authorities were called off the chase when it crossed over into North Carolina, authorities said.

Sgt. Kinlaw said no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred near Green Acres Road and Pine Circle Road outside Tabor City, N.C., and further details about the crash were not available.
