Update: Moped driver killed in fatal crash on S.C. 22 identified

One person is dead after a fatal crash occurred Wednesday night involving a moped and pickup truck on S.C. 22, according to Michelle McSpadden, deputy coroner with Horry County.

Craig Jeffers, 18, of Ruckersville, Va., was killed in the crash, McSpadden said.

Jeffers, the driver of a 2013 moped, was killed after a crash happened about 9 p.m. involving a 1995 Nissan pickup truck, according to Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were traveling in the westbound lane of S.C. 22 when the crash occurred, with the moped in front of the 17-year-old driver of the pickup truck, Beres said.

Authorities said the driver of the moped was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and the driver of the truck, Keaton Strickland, was wearing his seat belt and was uninjured.

Specific details of how the crash occurred have not been released, and the highway patrol is still investigating this crash.
