Police investigating after man shot while driving in Loris

Horry County police are investigating after a 28-year-old man reported he was shot while driving down S.C. 9 in Loris, according to a police report.

Officers were called about 10 p.m. Monday night to a home off Highway 66 where the victim went for help.

Police said they found the victim lying on the back porch of the home covered in blood.

The victim told authorities he picked up a man at a store near S.C. 701, just before S.C. 9.

He told police a vehicle came up beside him as he was traveling on S.C. 9 and started shooting at him, authorities said.

The victim said once he was shot, he crashed his car off S.C. 9. An officer who responded to the incident at the home sent another policeman to find the car and crime scene, authorities said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. He told police he did not know the name of the man who was traveling with him. The victim also said he did not know what kind of vehicle the shooter or shooters were traveling in, police said.

Officers spoke with the residents of the home where the victim sought help, and a man told them he heard a knock at the door and heard a man saying he’d been shot. The man’s wife then called 911 for help, but no one in the home went to the porch to assist the victim because they were afraid, according to the report.

Lt. Raul Denis, spokesman with Horry County police, said the victim’s condition was unknown on Tuesday morning.

Horry County police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the police department at 248-1520 or the tip line at 915-8477.
