Pedestrian killed in crash on U.S. 17 near Lake Arrowhead Road during weekend

One person died and two other people were hurt late Saturday when they were struck by a vehicle while crossing U.S. 17 near Lake Arrowhead Road, according to authorities.

The person’s identity has not been released by the Horry County Coroner’s office pending notification of their family.

The crash happened at 10:47 p.m. Saturday when three pedestrians were crossing U.S. 17 near Lake Arrowhead Road, said Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A Hyundai was traveling south on U.S. 17 when the three pedestrians attempted to cross the highway and all three were struck by the vehicle, Wimberly said. One person died at the scene and two people were taken to Grand Strand Medical Center for treatment.

The S.C. Highway Patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the crash and more details will be posted as they are released by authorities.
