Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Leland, N.C., teen in connection with armed robbery and drug charges on Thursday with the help of Bladen County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Emily Flax, sheriff’s office spokesperson, said.

Da’Andre Kiheem Smith, 16, was charged with committing a robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing a controlled substance, and attempted breaking and entering.

Smith is charged as an adult in North Carolina due to the nature of his crimes.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Leland Supermarket, at 1393 Lanvale Road in Leland, N.C., authorities said.

Flax said Smith entered the store, pulled out a handgun, and then ran away on foot with $240 and a pack of cigarettes.

Only one clerk was in the store at the time, and no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Smith was arrested about 7 p.m. Thursday following a traffic stop just off of Highway 211 in Clarkton, N.C., Flax said.

Smith was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Facility without incident and is currently being held there on a $1,100,000 bond.
