Large police presence descends on Horry County housing development

Dozens of Horry County police officers packed a Horry County housing subdivision on Wednesday evening for a reported standoff.

Around 9 p.m., Horry County police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov said the situation was resolved without incident.

Neighbors said a person exited a house and was placed on a gurney as the situation ended.

The incident started around 7 p.m., said Jo-Ann Sarcone, who lives nearby. According to Moskov officers responded to a call near the Island Green Golf Villas. She did not provide further details.

Horry police, the Horry County Sheriff’s Office and a SWAT team responded to the area. There was no threat to the public during the incident.

Sarcone said she was at work when friends and family started to text about the situation. She arrived home to see dozens of police cars parked in the street.

“I freaked out,” Sarcone said. “It’s scary because you don’t know what to expect.”
