Body of Myrtle Beach swimmer last seen on Saturday has been found

The body of a swimmer, who drowned in Myrtle Beach during the weekend, has been recovered, authorities said Tuesday morning.

The death of Erick White, 20, from Sumter, was ruled an accidental drowning, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Tuesday morning when she released his identity.

White was last seen about 6 p.m. Saturday in the ocean near Seventh Avenue South in Myrtle Beach, Willard said. Authorities had been searching for White’s body since then.

It was unclear when or where he was found.

White was the player of the year for Region VI-AAAA boys basketball in 2014 and made the all-region team while he was at Sumter High School.

White’s death was among five that occurred during the Memorial Day holiday weekend along the Grand Strand. That includes two other men who died while swimming.

Two men were killed in motorcycle crashes during the weekend along the Grand Strand as well.

Young Gwon Go, 58, of Charlotte, N.C., died after he was pulled from the ocean about 3:15 p.m. Sunday near the Second Avenue Pier in Myrtle Beach, Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said. Go was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Eduardo Gutierrez, 42, was pulled from Oakbed Island near the Intracoastal Waterway on Sunday, a day after he disappeared while swimming with friends. He lives in the Myrtle Beach area but is originally from Mexico, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler. The cause of drowning was ruled accidental, Fowler said.
