Man jumps judge’s bench during bond court in escape attempt
A man charged with shoplifting tried to escape from a J. Reuben Long bond court session on Monday, according to Sgt. Sherri Smith, with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
Darren Love, 38, of Winston-Salem, N.C. was at a bond hearing for his shoplifting charge when he jumped over a judge’s bench and ran through an unsecured door, which led to the judge’s chambers, Smith said.
Love tried to escape about 11:19 a.m. Monday, but was almost immediately detained after breaking away.
Love was being held on a $5,000 bond for the shoplifting charge and is now also being charged with escape.
Love is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in a “special restricted area,” where he is being monitored, Smith said.
