Update: Missing 5-year-old in Litchfield Beach area found

Huntington Beach State Park staff, Georgetown Sheriff's Department and Midway Fire Rescue searched the surf and the beach after a 5-year-old girl was reported missing from the beach. As beachgoers learned of the search many reported to searchers seeing the child walking south toward North Litchfield Beach. She was found safe later and returned to her parents.

A 5-year-old girl who had Georgetown and Litchfield authorities searching for her Saturday afternoon has been found, according to Carrie Cuthbertson, Georgetown County Sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Midway Fire and Rescue found the girl, who had first been feared lost in the water but later was seen walking south toward North Litchfield.

She was found safe and returned to her parents, Cuthbertson said. No other details were available.
