Horry County police release fines, arrest numbers from Harley-Davidson rally

As authorities gear up for the next annual motorcycle rally, Horry County police released figures for arrests and fines issued during the 2015 Harley-Davidson rally, which ran from May 8 to 17.

During the rally, county police made 27 arrests, issued 162 warnings and collected more than $48,000 in fines or bonds during the annual 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle rally, authorities said Monday.

Nine people arrested on narcotic violations followed by three fugitive arrests, according to the figures. Other arrests included offenses of shoplifting, reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct, according to figures released by Horry County police Lt. Raul Denis.

The figures cover only enforcement by Horry County police and do not include totals from other jurisdictions such as Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach or Surfside Beach.

Officers issued 49 warnings for speeding followed by 24 equipment violations and 19 vehicle license violations, Denis said. There were 33 speeding courtesy tickets issued during the event.

A total of 153 courtesy tickets were issued, which means the person received a fine or ticket for an offense but was not taken into custody, Denis said. The total in bonds or fines collected was $48,791.50.

Figures for 2014’s Harley rally showed officers issued 171 warnings, made 271 cases and collected $81,444 in fines and bonds.

Over the 10-day Harley rally in 2013, Horry County police officers made 139 cases, issued 122 warnings and $37,508.50 fines, while in 2012 they made 147 cases, issued 285 warnings and collected $33,317.50 in fines.

Police will be out in force this week through the Memorial Day weekend to monitor traffic and violations as thousands of motorcyclists begin arriving for the annual Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest .
