Pedestrian killed in Myrtle Beach area

A pedestrian was killed Sunday night in the Myrtle Beach area when the person was hit by a vehicle, according to authorities.

Luis Martinez, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 11 p.m. Sunday from multiple trauma, said Tamara Willard, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner.

Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol said troopers are investigating the crash that happened at 10:55 p.m. Sunday on Shetland Lane, which is located off U.S. 17 Bypass near the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

A 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling East on Shetland Lane when it struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway, Collins said.

“It does not appear that any charges will be filed as it appears the pedestrian was in the roadway illegally,” Collins said.

More details will be posted as they become available.
