Horry County police say teen is second shooting victim in Loris area this week
A 17-year-old man was taken to a local hospital Wednesday night after he was shot in the Loris area on the same road where another man was killed less than a week ago, according to Horry County police.
Officers arrived at 611 Bill Grissett Road at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday after a report of gunshots being fired in the area, according to a police report. The officers spoke with someone who reported they heard what sounded like 50 gunshots in the area.
The officers sat in the area for about five minutes and never heard any other gunshot noises, and they were notified by power company employees that a nearby transformer had blown and that could have caused the sound, according to the report.
The officers cleared the area and five minutes later they were called about a 17-year-old man being taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle after he had been shot, Lt. Chip Squires said in a release. Officers began their investigation into the shooting.
In the report, officers found 15 shell casings in the road and were approached by a 56-year-old man who reported his home had bullet holes in it as well. That victim said no one was inside the house at the time of the shooting.
The condition of the victim or other details about Wednesday night’s shooting were not immediately available Thursday.
Early Saturday, Horry County police were also called to Bill Grissett Road, where they found 28-year-old Eugene Delong had been shot in his home during a robbery, Lt. Raul Denis said.
Delong died from a gunshot wound about 2:45 a.m. Saturday at his home on Bill Grissett Road, off S.C. 9 in Loris, said Michelle McSpadden, Horry County deputy coroner.
Denis said it appears that Delong was killed in his home during what police believe was a robbery. No arrests have been made in that shooting.
