Two parents were arrested Tuesday morning after a fight broke out between them at Socastee Elementary School, according to Lt. Denis Raul, spokesman with Horry County police.

Stephanie Redmond, 34, and April Ridgeway, 29, both of Myrtle Beach were each charged with disturbing schools.

The women were both taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and each was released Tuesday afternoon on a $1,000 bond, according to jail records.

Horry County police responded about 7:30 a.m. to Socastee Elementary School at 4950 Socastee Blvd. where two women yelled at and pushed one another, Denis said.

Police said the fight began with one woman yelling at the other about her driving.

Redmond was near a crosswalk and Ridgeway was approaching the crosswalk in her car, according to the police report.

Redmond shouted for Ridgeway to slow down. Ridgeway then stopped her car, got out, and the two women began shouting and pushed each other, authorities said.

Ridgeway got back in her car after being told to stop arguing by a school employee, but Redmond stood in front of Ridgeway’s car and refused to move until police were called, according to the report.

Ridgeway attempted to drive around Redmond several times, but Redmond kept stepping in front of her car, police said.

Ridgeway then drove over Redmond’s left foot while attempting to get passed her, authorities said.

Redmond was taken to the hospital as a precaution even though she continuously told police her foot was fine. She was not seen by hospital staff because she insisted that she did not need treatment, police said.

Police spoke with Judge Blanton about Redmond’s foot being run over, but the judge said there was not probable cause to charge Ridgeway with the incident because Redmond willfully put herself in harm’s way, and it could not be determined that Ridgeway had any malicious intent when the incident occurred.

The principal of Socastee Elementary School issued a no trespassing warning against Redmond, and police noted that Redmond had a history of being confrontational with school staff, according to the report.
