Update: Police have located abducted Conway boy safe in Myrtle Beach
The father of an abducted Conway boy rushed out of his home to get to his son Monday after he learned the child was found safe.
Conway police located the 3-year-old boy who was abducted by extended family members, according to Lt. Selena Small.
Officers were searching for Elijah Angel Levie, 3 – described as being 3-feet tall and weighing 35 pounds with black hair and blue eyes – until about 2:20 p.m. Small said. Police located Levie safe in Myrtle Beach and continue to investigate the “details and circumstances surrounding the abduction,” Small said.
When Zachariah Bay, Levie’s father, learned that police located his son, he excitedly ran out to his car with a car seat in hand to retrieve his son.
“It’s too much to take in at one time,” Bay said. “It’s just overwhelming.”
Police said extended family members forced their way into the house and took Levie around noon Monday.
“They came into my house, kicked in my door and a man said he had a gun,” Bay said. “I went to grab my child and one of the men put his hand behind his back and threatened me.”
Just before noon Monday, officers were called to Temple Street for a child that was taken by force from a home, Small said. The child was last seen in a 2000s model green Toyota Camry leaving Conway and possibly headed towards S.C. 90 to Little River area.
Conway police Chief Reggie Gosnell said police worked with the extended family to get the child, who Bay said is autistic, back home.
Bay said he returned from Indianapolis Sunday where he was saying goodbye to an uncle dying of cancer. Bay’s fiancee’s mother and brother called Bay earlier Monday and threatened to take the child, Bay said.
Bay told police he was feeding Levie and “trying to put him down for a nap” when the extended family members forced their way into the home.
