A man was arrested after another man was struck with a beer bottle multiple times at a Broadway at the Beach nightclub, Myrtle Beach police said.

Edwin Herbert Howard, 25, was charged with second-degree assault and taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail following the incident, authorities said.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 1:30 a.m. Friday to Celebrity Circle at Broadway at the Beach where Howard had been detained by security guards.

A witness told police that Howard tried to dance with a 22-year-old man inside the Malibu’s Surf Bar nightclub, and Howard struck the victim in the face with a beer bottle five to seven times after the victim refused to dance with him, according to the police report.

Police found the victim inside the club, and he identified Howard and told police Howard attacked him with a beer bottle.

Howard told authorities that he did not attack the victim and that he was pushed to the ground during the altercation and just returned to the scene to clear his name, police said.

Authorities said the victim had a gash on his forehead and lip, and he was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where hospital staff said he would need stitches for his injuries, authorities said.
