Police respond after purse snatcher drags elderly woman across parking lot in theft attempt

Myrtle Beach police are investigating after an elderly woman was drug across a restaurant parking lot by a man trying to snatch her purse, authorities said.

Officers were called about 9:50 p.m. Sunday to the China Chef Restaurant at 1470 S. Kings Hwy. where a 69-year-old woman reported the incident, police said.

The victim told police she was leaving the restaurant after buying food and a man came up behind her and grabbed her purse, causing her to fall to the ground.

The victim said the man began pulling the purse that was on her right shoulder. The suspect then dragged the victim across the parking lot pavement, but he was unable to take her purse and ran away, authorities said.

Police arrived and looked at security footage and are now searching for suspects in connection with the incident.

No suspects were identified at the time of the report.

The victim refused emergency medical service treatment, and police escorted her home.

No arrests had been made in connection with the incident as of Tuesday morning.
