Housekeeper a suspect in connection with alleged hotel room theft
A housekeeping employee at a Myrtle Beach hotel was implicated after a man’s cellphone went missing from his hotel room, police said.
Officers were called about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Captain’s Quarter’s Hotel at 901 S. Ocean Blvd. where a 33-year-old man reported the incident, authorities said.
The victim told police he used his cellphone to text his mother then placed it on top of the refrigerator and left his room for about 45 minutes.
The victim said when he returned his cellphone was missing and he did a thorough search for it before calling police, authorities said.
A hotel management employee checked hotel key records and saw that housekeeping entered the room, but did not service it, at the time the victim was away from his room, police said.
The hotel manager did not have the name of the housekeeper who entered the room, and the day-shift housekeepers had already left for the day at the time of the report.
No arrests had been made in connection with the incident as of Saturday morning.
