Horry County police charged one man with assault and trespassing after police say he punched his step-father in the face.

Wilford Brad Davis, 35, of Elizabethtown, N.C., was charged with assault and battery in the third degree and trespassing without permission Thursday, Lt. Raul Denis said.

Officers responded to a residence on Ware Drive in Nichols for a domestic dispute around 6:45 p.m., where a 66-year-old man said he was assaulted by his stepson. The victim said Davis arrived at the victim’s house after fishing and refused to leave after he was told he was not welcome in the home, according to a police report.

The victim told officers he went to retrieve a 9mm pistol from his bedroom and when he returned Davis punched him in the face, police said. Officers noted fresh bruising and swelling around the victim’s eye.

The second victim, a 63-year-old woman, forced Davis outside. Davis began pushing back into the home when the victim fired the handgun – aiming for Davis’ leg – but instead the bullet grazed Davis’ hand.

Davis left the residence and the victims alerted police, according to the report. Police found Davis and transported him to Loris Hospital for treatment.

The investigation revealed that Davis was the aggressor in this situation, Denis said. He was being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
