Man arrested in connection with weekend sexual assault
Myrtle Beach police have arrested a man in connection with sexual assault after a victim reported the incident to police Monday.
Norris James Ross, 51, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree criminal sexual assault and kidnapping. Ross is jailed at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and his bond has not been set, according to jail records.
Police were first called about the incident about 4 p.m. Monday to an apartment complex where a victim, whose age was not listed in the report, told police about the incident, authorities said.
The victim told officers that the assault occurred Saturday evening at an apartment on the corner of Graham and Dunbar streets, according to the police report.
The victim told police she was walking from a friend’s house to a bar on Mr. Joe White Avenue when she was approached by Ross.
The victim told officers that Ross asked her if she would like a cigarette and when she agreed, she said Ross pulled out a silver knife, held it to her neck, and dragged her to into an apartment where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, authorities said.
The victim waited until Sunday night to tell a 35-year-old friend about the incident. The victim’s friend persuaded her to report the incident to police, according to the report.
The victim told officers she had not showered since the incident occurred. The victim was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center for treatment.
