A 19-year-old Myrtle Beach man has been arrested in connection with a Dec. 17 shooting in which the victim was admitted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, according to a release from Krystal Dotson with the Horry County Police Department.

Daymond Smith is charged with attempted murder and is being detained at the Horry County Detention Center, the release states.

A witness said he was pumping gas at the Speedway gas station located at 1365 E. U.S. 501 toward Conway when the victim pulled up to him, according to the police report. The witness said the victim – who is from Johnsonville – asked for a ride to the hospital because he had been shot in the back and the witness obliged, the report states.

The witness told police that the victim made mention of knowing who shot him and that they had gone to high school together, according to the police report. The witness told police that the victim identified Smith as the man who shot him.
