More than $1,000 worth of merchandise recovered in mall shoplifting, cops say
Almost $1,300 worth of merchandise was recovered and a man was arrested in connection with shoplifting at Coastal Grand Mall Saturday, according to a police report.
A 42-year-old man, stopped by a store employee, told Myrtle Beach police he intended to pay for items he was seen taking from the store, a police report states.
Officers were called about 10 p.m. to Belk at Coastal Grand Mall in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Police spoke with a complainant who said the man, identified as Sterling Scott Sligh in the report, came into the store with a woman and picked out a lot of clothing, left it, then came back for it, according to officers.
The man entered and exited the store a couple of times during the incident, police said. He was stopped while leaving the store, allegedly carrying a bag filled with clothing, and all the items, which totaled to $1,291, were recovered, the report states.
While talking to him, police said he told them he put the items into a bag and planned to pay for them. He told authorities he forgot his wallet and was taking the items to his car to get his wallet, according to the report.
Police said they found eight Adderall pills on him during a search, and that he didn’t have a prescription for them.
