A white man reportedly screaming racial slurs at a black man was allegedly attacked and robbed of his bicycle near RipTydz and the SkyWheel on Ocean Boulevard around 8 p.m. Sunday night. Police say one of the suspects had a gun.

Two of the suspects, identified in a Myrtle Beach police report as 23-year-old Rico Antonio Funderburk and 21-year-old Hailey C. Mitchell, were seen running southbound on the boardwalk after the alleged attack. Police caught up with Funderburk and Mitchell near the Gay Dolphin, according to the report.

Officers say they found a Hi-Point 40 caliber gun in Mitchell’s backpack.

A witness near RipTydz told police that Keith Alan Lefever, 40, “had been screaming racial slurs” at Funderburk.

Officers reviewed city surveillance cameras and witnessed Funderburk assault Lefever, according to the report. Police say Funderburk pushed Lefever, punched him and kicked him and then took his bike which had fallen to the ground during the altercation.

After the assault, police say, Funderburk fled the scene on Lefever’s bike with Mitchell following behind.

Lefever and Funderburk were charged with disorderly conduct, fighting.

Police say they requested a warrant to charge Mitchell with unlawful carrying of a firearm. Mitchell had not been charged as of Monday morning.
