Man faces 25-year sentence after U.S. Marshals catch up with him

A 35-year-old Nichols man, who didn’t show up for his trial on drug and weapons charges and guilty conviction, was captured by U.S. Marshals and sentenced to 25 years on Monday.

In early November an Horry County jury convicted James Lamont Arthur, who was facing a third-offense drug trafficking charge, a drug possession charge, and two gun-related charges, according to a release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Arthur failed to appear for his trial in October, the release states. A bench warrant was issued for him, and the trial got underway without him.

The jury found Arthur guilty of third-offense trafficking cocaine base more than 10 grams, but less than 28 grams; possession of a schedule one to five drug – amphetamines or Adderall; unlawful possession of a pistol; and unlawful carrying of a pistol, according to the release.

Circuit Court Judge Steven H. John presided over the case and handed down the 25-year sentence.
